Background
MARGARET SOPHIA GRANT, born in 1849, married James Peter Gibson, born 1835. Her father, John Alexander Grant, born 1823, was the Captain of the 100 passenger ship “Como” on the St. Lawrence River. His father was Richard Neilson Grant, born 1793. As a United Empire Loyalist in 1815 he was granted 200 acres of “the waste lands of the Crown “ on the shore of the St. Lawrence River.
Richard’s father was Sgt. Alexander John Grant, born 1771 in Inverness, Scotland and died in Charlottenbourgh, Ontario in 1851. He fought in the war of 1812.
The Grant line goes back 16 more generations to the year 1230
and includes King Robert Stewart II and King Robert Bruce of Scotland!
